Nala is one of our babies in foster care. Before she had a foster she was very timid and would stay in one place, even out in the yard for potty breaks, so she was given the name Nova (a play on the Spanish phrase for “not going”). But as she became more comfortable in her new place, she’s begun to explore and become more adventurous.
Her foster has been working on crate training and house training. She sleeps in her crate and eats in her crate, but has not shown an interest in going into her crate without encouragement/reward.
She has been doing well with potty training for the most part, but recently had an accident in the house. She does not always potty when outside. She still sometimes just stands there or decides to lay down in the grass instead.
Nala can get a little nippy when playing. Needs to learn to only bite toys (not people’s hands/arms during playtime) She also has recently started thinking that everything is a chew toy for her, so she needs to learn what is and is not appropriate for that.
She is very playful, both with other dogs and with toys. She enjoys squeaky toys and balls, but has not learned to fetch yet. She loves to chase the ball indoors, but had no interest in the ball when it was outside. She enjoys walks, but is not leash trained.
Working on basic obedience. She jumps, pounces, or goes up on her hind legs when she’s excited, so she might not be ideal for homes with small children, at least until she is better trained. We have started learning sit, stay, come, “leave it,” and responding to the name Nova.
She is still a little shy and hesitant to go up to new people.
She’s very curious and smart and figured out how to tailgate the other dogs in the house through the automatic doggie door, but we’re working on using bells at doors/gates and a button for “outside.”
She has done well with bath time and grooming. She let her foster trim her nails with no problem, but didn’t care for having the long hair on her face trimmed.
She loves to chill and cuddle, but I wouldn’t call her a lap dog. She wants to be near you, but doesn’t try to climb into your lap like other dogs will. I think she’s not used to affection from people. For the most part, she is energetic and active. Her ideal home/adopter is someone who can dedicate time to making sure she gets enough exercise and engagement, especially as she learns how to be an inside dog with good manners. She has had no problem with meeting and getting along with other dogs. She would do well with other dogs who like to play. She’s not good at taking the hint if another dog is not interested in playing, but she is never aggressive.
She escaped her indoor playpen, so she definitely needs a fenced-in yard that she cannot scale.
She has been very quiet for the most part, even when she wants something. I’ve only heard her vocalize when playing or bark when we pass by houses with dogs in their backyards.
If Nala sounds like a dog you would like to adopt, please go to www.adoggie4you.org and fill out an application. Her adoption fee is $350. She is fully vetted and has had a ProHeart 12 injection to prevent heartworm disease. She was born around 06/2020 and weighs 18 pounds.
This dog is currently in Texas; however, it can be transported to Washington, Portland (Oregon), Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Chicago, Des Moines, Omaha, Cincinnati, Lexington KY, or all along the East Coast. If transported, there is an additional transport fee of $225 . We do not transport to Rhode Island or Massachusetts due to their regulations.
